Conference: Overcoming Barriers to Smart Grids and New Energy Services
The Energy Center is cosponsoring a conference this week on key issues associated with development and deployment of “smart grid” systems. The University of Texas Interdisciplinary Energy Conference will examine mechanisms for overcoming different socioeconomic, technological, and legal barriers to deployment of smarter electric power systems and technologies. Topics covered will include three primary sources of change: (i) issues surrounding consumer acceptance of smart-grid technologies, (ii) legal and regulatory institutions that facilitate deployment of smart grids and reduction of electricity demand, and (iii) promoting interoperability of smart-grid technology standards. Participants will also span multiple disciplines engineering, public policy, law, economics, psychology and business.
