Wright was first sworn in as a Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on May 30, 2018. He is currently serving a third term ending June 30, 2030. Commissioner Wright previously served as Chairman of the NRC from January 20, 2025 to June 30, 2025, and again from July 31, 2025 to January 8, 2026.
