Mr. Jones is a private investor and Corporate Director based in Houston, Texas.
As a private investor, Mr. Jones has been involved with a number of companies as an investor and board member across a range of industries, including energy, software, process technologies and internet services. With respect to public companies, Mr. Jones is a member of the Board of Directors of the General Partner of Shell Midstream Partners, L.P. (SHLX), a publically traded Master Limited Partnership and Spire Energy. Inc. (SR), a natural gas utility holding company based in St. Louis. Until September 2014, Mr. Jones also served as Lead Independent Director for Susser Petroleum Partners, L.P. (SUSP), a publicly traded partnership the parent of which was acquired by Energy Transfer Partners, LP in August 2014. With respect to private companies, Mr. Jones is President of Cinnabar Investments, LLC an oil and gas E&P company.
From September 2012 through May 2014, Mr. Jones served as an Executive in Residence at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin with a focus on Energy Finance.
From September 2007 through June 2012, Mr. Jones was the Co-Head of Bank of America Merrill Lynch Commodities (MLC). MLC is a global commodities trading business and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of America. Prior to taking leadership of MLC in 2007, he served as Head of Merrill Lynch’s Global Energy and Power Investment Banking Group and founder of Merrill Lynch Commodities Partners, a private equity vehicle for the firm. An investment banker with Merrill Lynch (1993-2007) and The First Boston Corporation (1986-1993) for over 20 years, Mr. Jones worked extensively with a variety of energy and power clients, with a particular focus on the natural gas and utility sectors. From 1980 until 1985, Mr. Jones was a Financial Associate with the oil and gas exploration and production division of Sun Company, primarily based in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Jones has had a wide variety of Board of Directors experience as a member of private and public company Boards as well as an advisor to boards of directors as an investment banker. During his investment banking career, Mr. Jones was involved in over $100 billion of advisory and financing transactions on behalf of clients. Specific private company boards on which Mr. Jones has served include Paradigm Software, Girl Games, Inc., and HiWave Energy. In addition, as a part of Bank of America/Merrill Lynch senior management, Mr. Jones served on several subsidiary boards in the US and UK.
Mr. Jones is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance with Honors (1980) and an MBA with High Honors and was a Sord Scholar (1986). Mr. Jones is a Life Member of the Dean’s Advisory Council of The McCombs School of Business and is a Member of the Executive Council of the KBH Energy Center at The University of Texas at Austin and an Emeritus Member of the Children’s Fund of Houston Texas.
